Why Tasmap?
Google Maps is undoubtedly an indispensable tool in modern life - complete map data, rich business information, real-time traffic conditions, and even air quality monitoring. However, during your usage, have you noticed some issues worth considering?
The Two Sides of Google Maps
Google Maps' business model is primarily built on two aspects: data collection and advertising.
First is data collection. As one of Google's core values, the map continuously collects various user behavioral data: your GPS location, map clicks, search content, reviews, etc., all of which become fodder for data analysis.
Second is advertising. This is Google's main revenue source, and its essence is "guiding users to receive specific information." Have you ever experienced standing right in front of a store, yet unable to find its information on the map? This is often the algorithm at work. In today's era, the manipulation of information has far deeper implications than we imagine, involving much larger commercial interests than we realize. Algorithms aren't inherently bad, but under commercial pressure, what we receive is often not "the information we want" but rather "the information they want us to receive."
Tasmap: A Map for People
Tasmap is a map that belongs to people. Every marker here comes from creators' dedication, without advertisements, commercial recommendations, or algorithmic interference. We use OSM (OpenStreetMap) as our base map, which is an open map platform that anyone can edit. On Tasmap, you can:
- Create local guides showcasing your favorite spots
- Share secret locations discovered from years of local living
- Plan themed city exploration routes
- Mark photography spots
- Create event maps
- Tell stories through maps
Tasmap vs. Google Maps
Tasmap isn't meant to replace Google Maps. For daily navigation and route planning, Google Maps remains an excellent choice. Tasmap's positioning is closer to Google My Maps, but we offer a more modern user experience and richer customization capabilities. Most importantly: every map here is fully controlled by its creator.
As a creator tool, Tasmap's revenue comes from supporting creation, not from advertising or selling user data. Tasmap is a map that belongs to people - let's create your own map together!
Fun fact: Tasmap's name comes from Tasslehoff Burrfoot, a Kender from the "Dragonlance Chronicles" series. He loves collecting maps, and things often "somehow" find their way into his pouches.
