Roadmap: A Better Horse

There's a famous quote attributed to Henry Ford: "If I had asked people what they wanted, they would have said faster horses." This quote is widely used in product development to encourage revolutionary innovation. But what's less discussed is the possibility that sometimes, users really do want a better horse.

Hi Community,

Before we knew it, the end of the year is upon us. I hope you're all enjoying the colors of autumn, whether it's the golden yellow of ginkgo or the vibrant red of maple.

Back in late August and early September, we sent out an email asking for your feedback. We were pleasantly surprised to receive so many in-depth and insightful responses. Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and expectations with us. After spending time organizing and digesting all your feedback, a clear theme emerged: "I love Tasmap's design and want to create beautiful maps with it, but I'm running into a lot of difficulties."

Addressing this is our primary mission moving forward.

Guidance, Tutorials, and Polishing Details

We will be dedicating significant effort to improving the user experience and onboarding process (you may have already noticed some changes), and helping you unlock the full potential of Tasmap. This includes:

  • Simple, in-editor tutorial videos
  • Improved linking for map elements and contents
  • Editor user experience improvements
  • Tutorials and optimizations for various layouts
  • More examples and templates
  • Use case guides for various features

Classic Layout & Import

  • Classic Mode: A much-requested feature, this will be a layout centered on the map and its points of interest, similar to traditional services like Google My Maps.
  • Data Import: We will prioritize KMZ/KML import to allow for quick and easy migration of your existing map data to Tasmap.

Stability

We fully understand the frustration of encountering unexpected bugs while editing. Therefore, until the goals above are met, we will be pausing the development of new features—especially exploratory or experimental ones—and focusing our energy on stability. Instead of flashy new features, we are choosing to focus on making Tasmap a better, simpler, and more reliable tool for you.

Ending Notes

We will be sharing our progress and updates on X (Twitter) and Discord, so be sure to follow us there. If you have any thoughts, please share them in our Discord or contact us via email. I read and reply to every message personally.

Thank you again to everyone who provided feedback. We hope you enjoy this time of year, a perfect season for reflection and winding down.
