AI in Tasmap
In recent years, AI has swept through the tech industry and gradually permeated into everyday life. As the developer of Tasmap, a map creation platform, I'd like to share my perspective on AI and its role in our product.
The Five Stages from Thought to Action
I break down the human process from thinking to action into five parts:
- Perception: Generating initial ideas
- Reasoning: Thinking about the information and steps needed to realize ideas
- Operation: Using various tools to collect and process required information
- Decision Making: Making decisions based on collected information
- Action: Executing the final decision
Traditionally, applications provide tools, while how to use these tools is entirely up to humans. The AI Agents that have received much attention recently are essentially helping humans handle the "using tools" part.
A Concrete Example
Taking "weekend trip to Lake Kawaguchiko" as an example, the process can be broken down into:
- Perception: Having the idea "I want to visit Lake Kawaguchiko this weekend"
- Reasoning: Thinking about needed information like accommodation, transportation, weather, attractions, etc.
- Operation: Using various tools to gather information, such as Google, Agoda, travel blogs, etc.
- Decision Making: Deciding on the final itinerary
- Action: Booking accommodations, purchasing tickets, packing luggage
In this scenario, AI can effectively replace the Reasoning and Operation parts—inferring specific needs from your intentions and using various tools to gather information based on these needs.
AI's Role in Tasmap
This is precisely AI's current role in Tasmap: an assistant that handles mundane tasks. We want AI to handle those tedious but necessary tasks, allowing users to focus on creative expression and content creation.
So far, Tasmap has integrated the following AI features:
- AI Map Designer: Helps design map styles, automatically adjusting everything from color schemes to element highlighting based on your preferences
- AI Auto Location: Automatically identifies locations mentioned in text and intelligently connects them to corresponding positions on the map
- AI Marker: Helps you create the most suitable map markers based on location characteristics and map style
- Create Map with AI: With just a simple description, AI can help you build a complete map framework for you to further create upon
AI is Just an Assistant, Not the Star
The core design of these features follows one principle: AI, like Google search or other services, is just another practical tool. It can help you complete many tedious tasks, allowing you to invest your valuable time and energy in true creation. In Tasmap, AI is always just an assistant, not the star. The person who ultimately decides what the map looks like and what story to tell is always you.
